Should your infant swim? This is a question that many parents are asking themselves over and over again once they see information about infant swimming online. While the concept is new to most parents it’s been around for decades. Millions of children and parents around the world are realizing the full potential of these programs and are hastily investing into their child’s future. In this article we will discuss the why’s and how’s of letting your infant swim so that you can feel more comfortable about the venture.
What are the benefits of letting your infant swim?
The biggest development that people say they get from allowing their children to swim is that it promotes a positive development within the child as a whole. Children are much more happy and relaxed when they are regularly swimming. Water has a soothing, calming effect on children (and adults) and this effect can be seen quite dramatically with children of all ages. Research has been done and shown that children who swim regularly have a better chance of increasing their intelligence, alertness and even their concentration. They improve not only in their school work but also in their emotional and physical development.
By allowing your children to swim regularly they will build themselves well physically. They will become stronger and healthier. They develop better motor skills and increase their cognitive abilities. Most importantly, water is the perfect cure for children with special needs.
How should I teach my infant to swim?
When it comes to teaching your infant to swim you have two options. You can either do the classes for yourself from home or go to a professional. Each one has its ups and downs. With a personal instructor you’ll be able to have a specific person to talk to… but it can be hard depending on how many people are in the actual class. Online courses that are being sold are in a form of a DVD. It will be like having a personal instructor right in your house… but you can feel scared to implement some of the techniques because you’re by yourself.
You need to find out which one suits your budget and your temperament. For budget savvy parents it’s always recommended that you rather go for the DVD option. It gives you all the information necessary to teach children between the ages of six months and six years. Six years’ worth of material is really inexpensive if you’re getting the DVD for less than thirty pounds.
Don’t be afraid of infant swim courses. They can positively change your child’s life
